Museum News and Friends of Athelstan Museum Newsletters
Fantastic News - June 2016:
We have been able to buy the Moravian Church. After the despair of losing the chance to buy it a year ago this is so exciting. With the help of generous, very generous donors, we have secured the church – now we need to raise the money to do it up. We are writing to all those who pledged money before and hope that they will all dig deep into their pockets.
We have great ideas for the Church – many and varied. Education is top of our list; both for schools and adults as well. We shall be able to accommodate much larger parties and be more adventurous in the activities we can offer. We aim to have first rate lecture facilities so talks and films will be a pleasurable experience – not an endurance feat!
Our collection continues to grow and as it does storage becomes more of a problem and we need space to work on the collection. The Moravian church will provide this. Exhibitions will benefit from the increase in space; more and larger objects will be able to be displayed. We shall be able to host a wider range of social events. We hope that other groups will also use the building; it will be another amenity for the town.
That’s not the only way the town will benefit; we will remove the forest that has appeared and smarten up the outside. We must emphasise that this new facility is an addition to the museum. In no way does it replace our museum in the Town Hall which is ideally situated and works very well; and we can cooperate with the TIC. We shall carry on doing the things we do now – but bigger and better!
We obviously have plans and costings from our previous attempt but these will need to be updated and refined. Naturally the more finances we can raise the better facilities we will be able to provide – and we want to do it really well. We welcome all offers of help, whether it is a financial contribution (please download the Donor and Gift Aid form) or with volunteering (contact Athelstan Museum in the Town Hall).
If you are not already, become a Friend of Athelstan Museum and share in the excitement.
Please contact Roger Griffin on 01666 822230 or through email at the museum firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like more information or to discuss the plans.
