Events for 2010 are centered upon the millennium of Eilmer's flight from the Saxon church in about 1010 a.d.
EILMER
On Saturday 3rd July children and families were invited to make their own models of Eilmer, our flying monk. In the afternoon in the Birdcage Walk the models were flown down zip wires from a scaffolding tower. The models are now on display in the museum.

On Saturday 10th July four lectures entitled 'Flights of Fancy' were given in the Town Hall by Tony McAleavy, Tim Porter, Paul Chapman and David Keen. In spite of several counter attractions in Malmesbury on this day, the lectures were well attended and well received. An excellent buffet lunch was served and everyone came away well refreshed and well informed.

Roy Canham, the recently retired county archaeologist, took a group of people on a tour of the archaeological sites of the town.

Saturday 18th September
A film at Malmesbury Town Hall " The Flying Monk" directed by Matthew Inns (NZ) 2009. This 25 minute film takes a look at the life and story of Eilmer the Flying Monk. The film was awarded second place in the Indie International Short Film competition in 2009. It will show hourly from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber . Admission Free.

15/16/17th October
The 'Hobbes Festival' will be held in the town hall. This festival to celebrate the life of Thomas Hobbes, Malmesbury's famous philosopher 1588-1679 was postponed from 2009 when the threat of influenza discouraged large gatherings.
